My 1st Mother Day...

13th May 2007 marks a special day for me. Today is my birthday as well as Mother's Day (my 1st one). We had a dinner gathering in a chinese restaurant at Golden Mile Complex. A total of 7 of us ordered the Mother's Day menu for dinner. The food was not bad but the price was slightly on the high side.

After dinner, we went home for cake cutting celebration. We had a nice mango cake for dessert.

Kean is 3 months old...

As Kean grows older day by day, he is getting more active and naughty. For the past 1 month, he started sucking his left thumb alot, especially when he is in sarong being rocked to sleep. I am very fortunate to have my mum helping me take care of Kean during weekdays with Cuifen helping out on Saturdays when I resume work on 28Apr07.

He also attempts to stand up with our help holding on his arms and likes to kick alot. Who knows, when he grows up, he may become a good soccer player with the guidance of his daddy who often played soccer (mostly as goalkeeper) during his teens days. ^_^ He can even lie on his stomach & smiles happily when you talk to him.

Another milestone that he has achieved is... He is able to sleep through the night since 12May from 11.30pm to 7am. I'm really thankful to God for this since now I can rest well at night without having to wake up in the middle of the night to feed him.

Kean's first shower by Daddy & Grandma

15Apr07 Sun
Kean was bathed by daddy for the 1st time. It was an interesting scene seeing him bathe Kean as he has never bathe babies before. At the end of the whole process, daddy was perspired all over. Luckily, Kean didn't cry & quite enjoyed the bath. ^_^

20Apr07 Fri
Kean was bathed by Grandma for the 1st time. She is more experienced since both my brother & I were bathed by her while we were young.

Finally... Bottle feeding

Today, Kean is finally willing to be bottle fed. He needs to take the bottle & be taken care by my mum while I'm working as my maternity leave is ending soon on 09May.

Yesterday (17Apr), he would rather cried the whole afternoon than to be fed on bottle. In the end, we gave up and i breast fed him. Last night, I prayed to God on this and Thank God that Kean's willing to take the bottle. Through this incident, I'm deeply believing that God's blessing has ALWAYS been with Kean...

Pray that Kean will get used to the bottle without much fuss from now on...

TMC hospital stay (14-16Feb07)

The hospital stay @ TMC is a pleasant one. The staff are friendly & helpful. During my 1st day of stay, I have been assisted how to breastfeed Prince Kwan. Initially, I felt so lost & clumsy as he is so soft & small. Fortunately, I managed to get the hang of it after a few times of feedings.

The confinement food @ TMC is also nice, especially their tonic soup - papaya fish soup which I must really recommend for mums who want to increase breast milk. I even ordered 5 portions (abt. $6.80 each) to bring home upon discharge.

During my stay, I had friends & relatives visiting me, namely: Huizhen, Ivan & Celeste, Aunt Connie, Cuifen, Caroline & Norman, XiaoYing & her mum, etc; of whom had made my stay not so boring. I even had made friends with my room-mate, Julia, who has also given birth to a Valentine's Day baby boy.

14Feb07: Prince Kwan is born... (in an unique way!)

Cont. from my last entry: The pain got intense at around 6am, at 15min interval...

I was in so much pain, esp during its peak, that I even had difficulty to finish my shower b4 going to TMC. Fortunately, hubby managed to hail a cab pretty fast to rush me to the hospital. The 20-min cab trip seems to be a long one, esp feeling the intense pain for >3 times in the cab of which seems to me like tummyache so unbearable with added-on constipation since no relief & sleep over the night. It really trains me to focus my mind hard & control breathing. My mum was besides me helping me in whatever she could to let me feel relaxed.

Upon reaching TMC, I even had difficulty of walking to the admission counter for registration due to the intense, super uncomfortable pain. However, I still managed to walk up slowly with the help of the nurse to the Observations Ward (L2) to get ready for Induced Labour procedure. Thinking that the pain was due to tummyache + constipation (caused by Great mixture of food the day b4), I told the nurse that I was having constipation and requested to relieve my pain. Hence, after I got changed, she injected me with Enema to move my bowels b4 Labour Induction. After drug admission, I went to the toilet to try my luck.

I was in the toilet, trying VERY hard to clear bowels for almost 45 mins but to no avail. I'm still in great pain. Suddenly, I realised I was bleeding and thought it was due to the sore piles that I had. As such, I didn't call for the nurse and continued to try for my luck, waiting for the drug to take its effect.

An hour has passed since I was in toilet. Suddenly, I realised something BIG dropped out from below after much pushing. Then I heard loud cries! Now then I realised that my dear Prince Kwan has "Dropped out".
Prince Kwan is born at 8.25am on 14 Feb 07 (Valentine's Day), weighing 2.855kg, height is 48cm.

At this moment, I quickly called for help continuously. Luckily, he was facing me with head came out first at the toilet bowl and I managed to catch hold of him. Or else, down he goes into the dirty toilet bowl. Phew...

A few nurses came to the toilet carrying towels to wrapped him up and I was wheeled to the Delivery Ward with him since his umbilical cord is still attached to me. As Dr Chua had not arrived after I was settled in the Delivery Ward. Sis Grace, the experienced mid-wife helped to cut the umbilical cord so that the baby can be carried to the bassinet to keep warm.
Hubby didn't make it in time to "cut ribbon" ie umbilical cord, What a pity! Besides he also did not witness the pain that I have gone through during the pushing process alone in the cubicle. SIGH... This made him think that I can deliver so easily without epidural.

At this moment, I was still in a state of shock, not so much in pain. Dr Chua arrived at around 8.45am to deliver the placenta and repair the tear due to the push. The actual pain felt was during her injection of anaesthetic around my tear (>5 shots) to do the stitching procedure. I had to breathe in laughing gas to endure the pain.

Due to such a DRAMATIC delivery process and the time lag, my cord bood was not able to be collected for donation to the Public Cord Blood Bank. In fact, the day b4 (13Feb), I even made a trip to their office @ KKH to sign the donation form b4 my last gynae appt. What a pity...

So the whole delivery process only took abt. 1 hour of which I must say: I'm REALLY GOD-BLESSED! However, for future delivery, I will sure pray to GOD for smooth delivery at the comfort on the bed & not in such a unique way.

GOD has been good to me right from the conceive process (in Batam during church retreat), pregnancy period (no morning-sickness and smooth 8 mths without much backache) and delivery process (short & smooth + so unique). May GOD continues to bless this child as he grows... ^_^
